Vertical garden in Colombia – EPM Smart Building, Medellín

Medellín, Colombia

In the smart building of Empresas Públicas Medellín, in Colombia have been performed a few vertical gardens, result of a collaboration between Groncol and Paisajismo Urbano.

The first one has two green walls with north and south orientations that are equal to 61 m2 and are located in the  2,000 plants of 25 different species have been seeded highlighting the incorporation of a 60 % of local species.

These green walls are located on the roof of the 11th floor, so they suffer from a strong wind load in the afternoon. These gardens were expected to be the roof’s finishing touch and were designed like a complement to the green roofs.

Besides, this building has 8 Vertical Ecosystems placed on the main entrance, in order to beautify it. Each wall has a little bit more than 57 sqm, what means a total of 460 sqm. To perform them more than 12,000 plants of 19 different species were used.
