Founder of Paisajismo Urbano and expert in biological interaction, Ignacio Solano
has spent 14 years carrying out research in tropical forests around the world. In consequence, he has developed a new concept that goes beyond vertical gardens: vertical ecosystems. This system is the result of his observation and study of the interspecific processes and symbioses that exist between flora and microfauna.
Ignacio’s passion for nature began at an early age: at eight years old he was already catching snakes and various other reptiles to observe and breed them in captivity. And so he began to learn and understand the beauty of the microsystems he created for them. Years later, following his instincts, Ignacio gained a degree in biology and travelled to the rainforests of Mexico, Brazil, Madagascar, northern Argentina, Reunion Island, Africa, Sumatra, etc.
After many years of study and research in situ, Ignacio now strives to bring lush vertical rainforests to busy urban centres that lack horizontal space, to populations that live in cities far removed from the natural world, swamped by pollution and stress, with children who barely see any wildlife but pigeons. And to do so, he relies on the laws of nature and ecology.
From vertical garden to vertical ecosystem
Ignacio carries out an in-depth analysis of existing systems, and begins to observe their deficiencies. In this way, he takes on the task of building a complete system, a system that really does last through time and requires minimum maintenance.
According to Ignacio, “A vertical ecosystem is based on the complex interactions of nature in one wall: fungus-plant/plant-plant/fungus-bacteria/plant-fungus-bacteria… If you want the wall to last, you must not rely on gardening alone – it is essential to apply biological concepts.”
Thanks to his globally patented formula, Ignacio has received a number of awards and acknowledgements from different official bodies. Today, he devotes himself not only to the construction of these magnificent ecosystems but also to promotion and collaboration with official bodies and professionals across the globe.
Vertical gardens have been around for many years, but Ignacio went one step further by inventing the concept of a vertical ecosystem
. Ignacio Solano not only builds vertical gardens; he also constructs an elaborate and lasting system from a vertical ecosystem, which pays attention to the complex natural interactions that occur in one wall.
